SEW Lunch - Wednesday 18th October 2017

SEW Lunch ⭐

The 2^nd Shoalhaven Empowered Women's (SEW) Charity Lunch was held at the beautiful Butterfactory Restaurant on Wednesday 18th October.

The day began at 11.30am with the opportunity to network with other empowered ladies and enjoy a glass of wine or soft drink.

SEW Ladies were invited to purchase a raffle ticket, make a gold coin donation for the lucky door prize and make a bid for 6 silent auction items.

Guests were then seated to enjoy a delicious entree, followed by a main course, expertly cooked by Andrew and his Butterfactory team - Yum.

Andrew and his wife Maria have owned the butterfactory for over 10 years and provide top class food and service.

We had lots of generous people who donated a wide range of items, from a beautifully hand-made quilted throw to lunch at the butterfactory.

Thank-you so sincerely to all those people who provided an item for our day - Judy S, Elizabeth G (Specsavers), Ellen T (Svelte Finance), Lynnette K (Nowra Framers), Bev B, Jeni H, Jill W, Louise F and the Butterfactory.

OR made a generous cash donation, thankyou Marianne R.

Thanks to you and our generous ladies we raised a whopping $811.00 !!

The money will be donated to the Shoalhaven Women’s Health Centre.

After lunch we enjoyed listening to a very empowered, inspiring lady Tracy Lumb, (Manager of Shoalhaven Women’s Health Centre) who spoke about “Women Squared”.

Tracy spoke about the Centre and what it means to be a woman in today’s tough world, when things can and do go wrong.

WELL WOMEN = WELL SOCIETY and it is up to all of us to make a difference, big or small to another woman in need.

Tracy was also very thankful for the donations of sanitary items (Share the Dignity) and personal items and handbags (It’s in the bag).

The lunch concluded around 2.30pm.

Shoalhaven Empowered Women's Charity Lunch

I am so excited to announce that our next guest speaker - TRACY LUMB

TRACY LUMB is the Manager of the Shoalhaven Women’s Health Centre, a community women's health centre that provides holistic health care for women from lower socio economic and disadvantaged backgrounds.

Tracy brings seventeen years of professional experience in community development and capacity building with a focus on training and education for women who may have experienced barriers to this in the past. Her commitment and expertise in this work is motivated by her strong sense of social justice and equality for all women in education and access to affordable high quality health care that works from a model of holistic integrated care developed by women for women.

Shoalhaven Women’s Health Centre (SWHC) began in 1983 from rented premises in Nowra from donations of money from local women. The Family Planning Clinic was funded by Doctors working on Medicare and staffed volunteers from the Health Centre Collective. In 1984 they were finally granted Department of Health funding.

SWHC is a multidisciplinary integrated health service with a preventative health care focus. The centre recognises that all women have a right to be treated with dignity and respect in an environment which provides for privacy, confidentiality, informed consent and safety.

Whilst they receive a certain amount of funding from the Department of Health, they basically operate on a shoestring, so all donations are welcome with the funds going towards programs and workshops for women of all ages. They are always in need of personal items for women, e.g. sanitary items, toiletries, hair dyes etc.

I would like to ask you if you could bring an item to our lunch.

I am truly excited to welcome Tracy Lumb as our guest speaker and Shoalhaven Women’s Health Centre as our fund raising recipient.

So please SAVE THE DATE – Wednesday 18^th October 2017.

The centre also participates in SHARE THE DIGNITY - an organisation that was formed to help homeless and women in domestic violence shelters access sanitary pads. It is shocking to think that these women each month brought a shameful and traumatic experience, suffering indignities such as having to clean themselves in public toilets and use paper towels and newspaper to create makeshift sanitary pads.

The centre has a box on their front porch - 5 McGrath Avenue, Nowra, where you can drop off the sanitary pads and tampons.

Each year in November they also participate in Its in the bag collection, which provides a gift to a woman in need at Christmas time. So don't throw away your nice handbags and fill it with items for a lady eg personal items.

So many things we can do to assist these women in crisis situations, so please give it some thought.

Shoalhaven Empowered Women's Charity Lunch 19th October 2016

The Inaugural Shoalhaven Empowered Women's Charity Lunch was held at the beautiful Butterfactory Restaurant on Wednesday 19th October.

The day began at 11.30am with the opportunity to network over a glass of wine. Guests were then seated to enjoy a delicious entree, followed by a main course, expertly cooked by Andrew and his Butterfactory team - Yum.

Guests were invited to purchase a raffle ticket, with various items available for sale and silent auction. We had lots of generous people who donated a wide range of items, from wine to candles to lunch at the Butterfactory.

Thank-you so sincerely to all those people who provided an item for our day - Bev, Judy S, the Butterfactory, Gaynor, Amie and PartyLite Candles.

Thanks to you and our generous ladies we raised a whopping $706.53 !!

The money will be donated to the Shoalhaven Cancer Care Centre.

After lunch we enjoyed listening to a very empowered, inspiring lady Fay Lamont, who spoke about being a women in a very male dominated world - thank-you Fay - a true Entrepreneur.

Fay also kindly offered to speak after the last minute loss of our advertised speaker Helen Breen. due to poor health.

The lunch concluded around 2.30pm, then we took off to the Shoalhaven Homeless Hub to deliver an assortment of food and toiletries. Kerry and her devoted crew of workers were very appreciative of our/your kind donations.
